Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah is set to stay at the club beyond the January transfer window, football.london understands.
The 24-year-old has been one of the players at Stamford Bridge facing a potential move away this month after falling out of favour under Mauricio Pochettino. Chalobah is yet to make a competitive appearance under the Argentine this season after suffering from a hamstring injury picked up in pre-season.
In September, football.london reported that the versatile defender has been told there is a chance he will not play for the club again after refusing a transfer away from the club. Bayern Munich wanted to sign Chalobh on loan in the summer, but Chelsea preferred a permanent deal.
Bayern were hesitant to play for a fee of around £50 million that the Blues were promoting. Nottingham Forest came in with a late proposal, but the Cobham graduate did not want to move to the City Ground.
Chalobah has continued to nurse a thigh injury this season, and his future at the club has remained unclear ever since the summer. However, with the January transfer window closing at 11 p.m. tonight, he now looks set to remain at Chelsea until the end of the season.
football.london understands that interested clubs are reluctant to pay good money for the defender due to his complete lack of game time this season. Tottenham, who were interested in the summer, signed Radu Dragusin from Genoa earlier in the window to more or less rule themselves out.
Chalobah’s contract in west London doesn’t expire until June 2028, meaning Chelsea are in a strong position to demand a big fee. However, should he continue to not play football under Pochettino, his market value will only plummet further.
