Real Madrid could sign former defender for €8m in the summer after he rejected €25m PL move in January

Real Madrid have never been shy about letting players leave, be it superstars who have cemented legendary status at the Santiago Bernabeu like Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, or Casemiro.

Or youngsters who are looking for more game time and believe they are not quite cut out for the first team, like Miguel Gutiérrez.

The Spaniard, after trying to break through the Real Madrid senior team on a number of occasions, did not miss a beat before accepting Girona’s offer in the summer of 2022.

The Catalan outfit paid €4 million for his services, while Los Blancos cemented an €8 million buy-back clause in his contract that would first come into play in the summer of 2024.

Gutierrez has done some tremendous work with Girona since then. This season, he has played 22 games, during which he has scored one goal and given three assists. His performances also have Europe on watch.

As reported by MARCA, Gutierrez rejected a €25 million offer in the summer, presented by a top Premier League side.

This would have forced Real Madrid to shell out €12.5 million to gain back control of his rights, as per the contract. This gives Madrid enough time to internally debate whether they want to bring back the Spaniard for €8 million or splash upwards of €50 million on Alphonso Davies.

Gutierrez does have a release clause in his contract, too, worth €35 million, that will kick in this summer. It will likely attract a number of top teams, especially those in the Premier League looking for left-backs.

The report adds that the Girona defender has, in the past, also rejected Manchester United in favour of Real Madrid when he was 15 years old.

The Red Devils offered him a better deal than what was on the table from Madrid, but the player did not want to leave the Spanish capital with dreams of breaking into the first team.
