David Gill, the famous former CEO of Manchester United, named Cristiano Ronaldo as one of his three best moves at Old Trafford.

The former Red Devils official worked for the club for 16 years, from 1997 to 2013. He named the three most important players the club signed while he was CEO. Gill was in charge of finances at United for six years before becoming CEO in 2003.
Gill said on Rio Ferdinand’s show Vibe with Five, “Wayne (Rooney) would be one of the top three signings in terms of what he did for the club.” I’d say Michael Carrick because of what he brought to all of that. And for the third, I’d say, “Well, I can have two.” There are many. Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra will be there.”
“But I think Edwin was one of the most important to the club,” he said. It was hard to find a replacement for Peter Schmeichel, but we finally got Edwin, who played great for us.Even though Gill didn’t include Ronaldo’s move in his list, it is important to remember that the Portuguese player joined the club for the first time a month before he became CEO of the club. Ronaldo left United in 2009 to play for Real Madrid. He came back to Old Trafford in 2021, 12 years after leaving. After a fight with boss Erik ten Hag in the middle of the 2022–23 season, Ronaldo mutually ended his contract and went to play for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League.
The star player might be able to play again on February 8 when Al-Nassr play a friendly against the league leaders, Al-Hilal. Al-Nassr will play again on February 14 in the playoff stages of the AFC Champions League, this time against Al-Feiha.
