The latest Arsenal transfer news and rumours with just days left of the January window

The January transfer window will close in two days, and Arsenal are slowly running out of time to get any sort of business completed.
Mikel Arteta’s £200 million spending spree in the summer has restricted the business the Gunners can do in the winter market. Before the window opened, there was expectation that a new centre-forward would be added to the squad.
That hasn’t been the case. Arsenal have yet to make a single signing this month, and Arteta’s squad is depleted with injuries. As football.london reported at the start of the month, the possibility of a new arrival will only occur if a good opportunity arises, with a loan deal being the most likely outcome.
Concerns over breaking FFP rules have limited Arsenal, but that hasn’t stopped speculation from intensifying in the last 24 hours. With that in mind, football.london takes a look at the latest transfer rumours as we head closer to deadline day.
Osimhen ‘contact’ made
According to Calcio Napoli 24, Arsenal have made ‘contact’ to bring Napoli superstar Victor Osimhen to the Emirates Stadium. The report from Italy claims that the Gunners are ‘concretely’ interested in signing the striker.
Osimhen, who is currently away with Nigeria at the African Cup of Nations, is linked with a move away from Serie A despite only just signing a new deal. Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed the 25-year-old will leave in the summer, claiming he will go to “Real Madrid, PSG, or a top English club.”
Arsenal’s lack of business in January means they are likely to go all out to improve Arteta’s squad in the summer, and Osimhen could be a marquee signing.
football.london says: The fact Arsenal have reportedly put in the groundwork to speak to Osimhen’s entourage will be positive reading for fans. However, competition is big for the striker, and Chelsea aren’t expected to allow their London rivals to win the race for his signature that easily.
Osimhen would be the perfect striker for Arteta. Tall, powerful, quick, clinical, and technically sensational. A forward with a clear eye for a goal, the Nigerian international could be the missing piece of the puzzle.
His €140 million (£119 million) release clause would make him a club-record signing. Some may question the fee, but if Arsenal are to become one of the world’s best, they need players like Osimhen.
