Manchester United has reportedly offered Facundo Pellistri as part of a swap deal to acquire Sporting Lisbon midfielder Morten Hjulmand. However, the Portuguese club has rejected the proposal, awaiting the Red Devils to trigger Hjulmand’s £69 million release clause.

Manchester United scouts have been monitoring Hjulmand, a defensive midfielder, extensively throughout the season, attending at least six of his matches in both the Primeira Liga and the Europa League. The presence of Christian Eriksen, a close friend of Hjulmand and a mentor when they play together for Denmark, adds an additional appeal to the potential move. Rasmus Hojlund, another Danish international, is also part of the Manchester United squad.
Despite the offer of Uruguayan international Pellistri, who has made nine league appearances this season, Sporting Lisbon has not shown interest in the swap deal. Hjulmand joined Sporting from Lecce for approximately £15 million and has been a key figure in the team, featuring in almost all of their 24 games since joining, contributing one goal and two assists.
Hjulmand had previously been linked with a move to the Premier League during his time at Lecce, with Southampton reportedly showing interest. However, a potential move to Manchester United appears more attractive for the 24-year-old midfielder.
Manchester United is currently struggling in the eighth position in the Premier League table, trailing nine points behind the top four. As they face a challenging run of fixtures against Tottenham, Wolves, West Ham, and Aston Villa, the club is looking to strengthen its midfield options, especially considering the struggles of Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat since their arrival in the summer, along with Casemiro’s early-season struggles before suffering an injury.
