Pepe’s name has come up in the first conversations held with Cristiano Ronaldo in Riyadh. The centre-back, of whom the Porto president has recently stated that he can continue to play for his club as long as he wants, has become one of the Saudi club’s targets.
Pepe and Cristiano Ronaldo have shared a thousand battles. At Real Madrid, the centre-back served as the striker’s host, the teammate who taught him what the club was all about. Even in the most complicated moment with Jose Mourinho, they were a common front.
In the Portuguese national team they have formed the core over the last decade and a half. At the last World Cup, in one of the games in which Ronaldo was a substitute, the centre-back did not hesitate to take off his armband and give it to the striker as soon as Cristiano Ronaldo stepped on the pitch, in a clear gesture of admiration. The defender will turn 40 in February, but at the last World Cup he showed that he is still capable of playing top-level football. He is doing so at Porto and now has the chance to continue to do so alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.
MARCA has reported interest in Sergio Ramos for next summer, with Luka Modric on the horizon for 2024. That is not the end of Al-Nassr’s moves, and they are not ruling out further additions in the winter transfer window.
The directors are still on the move and the names are coming one after the other. The pull effect will mean that players who previously thought it was impossible to play in Saudi Arabia will now find sufficient incentive to try the adventure beyond the financial aspect.
