David Raya: Barely tested by Forest all night, but was alert to help his defenders out when they were under pressure. A focused performance. Good late work to punch from a corner and save Awoniyi’s goal bouncing effort. 6.
Ben White: Did well to get into the final third often with overlapping runs. His delivery upon arriving there was often lacking though. Solid enough in defence. 6.
William Saliba: Not really noticeable much on the night. That’s more a symptom of Arsenal’s dominance than any fault on his part, though. Weak in the concession of Awoniyi’s goal. 6.
Gabriel: He always seems to meet his match when it comes to the physical duel with Taiwo Awoniyi. I dealt well with Chris Wood before him, though. 6.
Oleksandr Zinchenko: He hadn’t been at his incisive best on the ball, but his moment of quick thinking from the throw-in broke the game open for Arsenal. A crucial contribution. 6.
Declan Rice: His set-piece delivery was not as effective as it was against Crystal Palace. It was sharp to protect Arsenal from the counter in the first half, though. 6.
Martin Odegaard: His decision-making is usually so composed in the final third, but it was a little off. Unlucky to be denied what would have been an assist from the season contender for Jesus’ shot off the post.
Emile Smith Rowe looked like Arsenal’s brightest player in the first half with a scooped effort from the edge of the box and a cut-back that deflected onto the roof of the net. He faded a little in the second, but that’s understandable with his lack of minutes. This was a promising sign of what’s hopefully to come for the Hale Ender. 7.
Bukayo Saka: Unlucky not to get on the scoresheet in the first half after a deflection, but took his goal well when it finally did come in the second half. He was rewarded for his diligence in the final third. 7.
Gabriel Jesus looked Arsenal’s most likely from the moment the second half kicked off. Unlucky to see his shot bounce back off the inside of the post, he earned the stroke of fortune that came from the deflection of the inside of Matt Turner’s legs. Proof that persistence pays off. An assist for Saka’s goal too! 8.
Gabriel Martinelli: Slightly disappointing in how quiet he was after his late brace against Palace. He did little wrong but wasn’t as influential as he’d have hoped. 6.
SUBSTITUES –
Kai Havertz came on just as Saka scored the second. In theory, this should have opened more spaces for him, but the German was quiet, if solid. 6
Eddie Nketiah: He came on too late to influence the game. n/a.
Leandro Trossard: He came on too late to influence the game. n/a.
Jakub Kiwior: He came on too late to influence the game. n/a.
Jorginho came on too late to influence the game. n/a.
