Calciomercato says that Manchester United is the favorite to sign Atalanta center back Giorgio Scalvini at the end of the season.

One of the most sought-after young defenders in Serie A, the 20-year-old is being watched by a number of top European teams.

The Italian player is worth about €50 million right now, but his value could go up to €60 million because he’s likely to sign a new deal.

Calciomercato also says that United is the “greatest threat” to the player this summer, ahead of Bayern Munich, PSG, and Napoli.

The Red Devils won’t have a “insurmountable obstacle” to get past Atalanta’s price.

In place of Varane, Scalvini could join United.

In the middle of Atalanta’s defense, Scalvini has been very important.

This season, the center-back has made two stops, two interceptions, and two clearances on average per game. He has won 66% of the aerial fights he has been in.Besides this, he has also recovered 5.7 balls per game. The Italian star still needs to work on his passing, but he has a lot of promise.

United might want to sign him because he could help the team succeed in the long run. His coming in the summer could happen at the same time that Varane leaves.

The end of June is the end of Varane’s deal. The people in charge have chosen not to use the 12-month extension clause in his €397,000-a-week contract.

The World Cup winner isn’t talking about a new deal that would mean a big pay cut, and it looks like he will be going for free in July.

A big choice needs to be made by the Red Devils about Victor Lindelof’s future as well. In the summer, the Swede will be in the last year of his deal.

United may have an advantage over their rivals in the race to sign Scalvini because they have worked well with Atalanta in recent years.

Amad Diallo and Rasmus Hojlund were already signed by the club from Bergamo.
